Cab Calloway

Cabell "Cab" Calloway III was born in a middle-class family in Rochester, New York, on Christmas Day in 1907. He enjoyed singing in church as a youngster and continued to study music thrghout his learning years. While Duke Ellington's band was on tour, Cab and his band "The Missourians" were hired to perform at the Cotton Club in New York City. Him and his band became so popular that his band became the "co-house" band with Ellington's, also getting a chance to tour nationwide when not playing the Cotton Club. He continued to record and perform in the 40's while aslo getting a "jive" dictionary published and being in the film "Stormy Weather". The next 50 years, Cab would go on to be cast in numerous movies and productions, most notably to me, Janet Jackson's "Alright" video. Cab Calloway died after complications from a stroke on November 18, 1994.
