Charley Patton

Charley Patton born April, sometime between 1887 & 1891 is best known as an American Delta blues musician. He is considered by many to be the "Father of the Delta Blues" and therefore one of the oldest known figures of American popular music. A small man at about 5 foot 5 and 135 pounds, his gravelly voice was rumored to have been loud enough to carry 500 yards without amplification. He made a series of recordings starting from 1929 until his death from heart disease on April 28, 1934. Though people disputed on the actual ethnic origin of Charley, he was actually of mixed race, being a mix of white, black and Cherokee Indian. There is only one photo on record for Charley Patton and even that is disputed. Wonder why people always dispute facts about great men.

Charley Patton's song "Pony Blues" (1929) was included by the National Recording Preservation Board in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2006
